Being a practicing Christian, there are very few things in yoga that are antithetical to Christianity. Some critics argue that yoga and Christianity cannot coexist, yet we know that yoga is not a religion.<\/p>\n
However, this depends on your opinion. Recently, I’ve been reading about someone who claims that Kundalini is “new age magic”.
Sorry to say, someone else recently said, “Good Christians should avoid Satan’s exercise,” referring to yoga.<\/p>\n
Are the Salem Witch Trials still very close to our hearts? These claims are interesting because ministers and priests have been practicing meditation for centuries, without any complaint.<\/p>\n
I suppose if someone devotes enough time to meditating on bad thoughts, meditation will be a bad experience.<\/p>\n
To be honest, it depends on what you’re meditating on; And in fact, some schools of Yoga, Hinduism and Buddhism teach. For me, this has always been a struggle, because I love yoga, but I don’t want to change my faith.<\/p>\n
Many of the teachings of yoga and meditation are non-denominational. Now, if yoga were a religion, what would it be? The principles of yoga are universal.<\/p>\n
Yamas and Niyamas are, in principle, similar to the Ten Commandments, but as a Christian you have the right to pick and choose what you want from yoga. You also have the right to avoid communal ashrams.<\/p>\n
The practice of yoga and meditation gives many Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims a closer connection with God, but there will always be someone who feels tempted to change their faith.<\/p>\n
Let’s be honest, people who worry about a sudden change in doctrine are, for the most part, rooted in two distinct intellectual camps.<\/p>\n
1. A person who is on the fence about their religion and whose true position you are not entirely sure.<\/p>\n
2. An extreme intolerance of any idea that is new or may lead to an opening of the mind.<\/p>\n
